EXO+, DoubleDown or DH: choose the casing before the deal

A practical Maxxis casing shortlist for trail, enduro and park shopping. Separate casing, compound and generation before comparing prices.

A tyre's tread name is only half the shopping brief. Decide the casing you need, then compare that construction across shops. An EXO+ offer is not a cheaper version of the same DoubleDown tyre.

Three starting points, not a universal fit prescription

These intended-use summaries come from Maxxis's technology guide, not our own impact or puncture testing.

The detail that can change a clearance comparison

Generation matters too: Maxxis now lists both DH and NEW DH technologies on its Assegai specification page. Ask for the manufacturer part number when a retailer title just says “DH”. A lower price on an older construction can still be worth considering, but it is not proof that one shop undercuts another on an identical tyre.

Make a two-wheel shopping brief

  1. Write down your current front and rear size, casing and compound separately.
  2. Note what you want to change: repeated damage, weight, ride feel or replacement cost.
  3. Use your tyre and rim manufacturers' guidance, and a mechanic when needed, to choose a suitable construction for your bike and use.
  4. Keep the chosen casing fixed while comparing offers. Confirm compound, dimensions, generation and tubeless marking before checkout.

The buying rule: compare the tyre you intend to ride, not the cheapest result with the right tread name.
